The life plan has to come before the business plan. (Courtesy of Norm Brodsky and Bo Burlingham from their book Street Smarts). Also known as “work is just a means to an end”.
Learn. Work. Play. Anytime. Anywhere.
First mission: Destroy the myth that pursuing IT career requires college education.
College education is only required for those careers that need licensure. In IT, it’s anything goes.
Second mission: Destroy the myth that IT sucks.
Why IT sucks? Because of four major factors:
– essential complexity (engines)
– integration (interface)
– cluttered design (user interface)
– complicated workflow (usability)
IT sucks not because IT is hard (any industry sucks anyway) but because the IT industry has yet to reach its full potential.
We are entering past an era where hardware and software are already commoditized, and into an era where usability is the name of the game. Where infrastructure and automation are reduced to engines, and where creativity starts to flourish. Remember, creativity cannot be automated.
In a word, the second mission is all about bringing back the fun to computing.
This is what this blog is all about.
